I am a Senior Researcher (Cercetător Ştinţific 1) and doctoral supervisor in the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology at West University of Timişoara, which I joined in July 2024 after serving as Tenured Professor of English Literature and Critical Theory at Shanghai Jiao Tong University from June 2018 to June 2024, where I won the prestigious Oriental Scholar Program (2020-2022). Before that, I was a full Professor, as well as a Faculty Dean, at UPG Ploieşti, Romania.

I have authored 6 books and manuals, and (co-)edited 2 books. I have published over 150 essays and review essays on James Joyce,  Samuel Beckett and related aspects of modernism, Maurice Blanchot, Jacques Derrida, as well as on Holocaust / Memory / Trauma Studies. Some of my essays have appeared in major international journals such as James Joyce Quarterly, Joyce Studies Annual, Life Writing, Memory Studies, Oxford Literary Review, parallax, Paragraph, Partial Answers, Slavic Review, SLOVO.

I am joint-editor-in-chief (with Laurent Milesi) of Word and Text – A Journal of Literary Studies and Linguistics, included in ESCI and Scopus, for which I have co-edited 8 issues (2012, 2013, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2023 and 2025) with academics from Britain, China, France, Malta and Romania.

I am currently completing a book project on the Jewish refugees in Shanghai during WW2.
